In an
effort to communicate a clearer, more objective picture of a
student’s academic progress, the Catholic elementary schools of
the Diocese of Providence has adopted a rubric grading system.
This reporting system moves away
from letter or numeral grades to the use of a scale of 1-5 that
is based on more concrete, objective criteria. The use of a
grading rubric will eliminate differences between teachers’
perceptions as it is based on student performance and
competence. Specific weight is given to each area of performance
according to grade level. This grading system gives the parent a
more definitive picture of their child’s progress and will also
identify student strengths and weaknesses.
